Carl von Linde Trail

A 5,4 km long elevated trail (1,000 m above the sea level) with little incline.

A gentle route with impressive views of Berchtesgaden, Schönau am Königssee, Mount Untersberg and Mount Watzmann.

Course: Starts opposite the “Dokumentation Obersalzberg” car park. Ends at Scharitzkehl Alp. Refreshment opportunities along the trail. Predominantly spruce and deciduous forest.

In 1895 Carl von Linde personally financed this public mountain trail.

Linde Nature Memorial

rom the start of trail where the Salzbergstrasse bends and on the left side behind the barrier, a tree mark Linde´s fromer property. The tree is catalogued in the German tree archives as the “Antenberglinde”. It is hollow inside and measures 9 m in circumference. The look-out point on the Mount Untersberg and Salzburg`s fortress is the fromer location of Linde´s “Villa Oberbaumgart”

Carl von Linde Memorial Site

Along the trail, almost 1,5 km from the “Dokumentation Centre”, a memorial to Carl von Linde was erected in 2008 by the community of Berchtesgaden and the Linde Group. Von Linde was so taken with the beauty of high alpine region of Berchtesgaden in 1866, that he later purchased several properties at Obersalzberg for his family. In 1936 the family was forced to give up their last property in Obersalzberg to the Nazis. Today it belongs to the state of Bavaria,

Hochlenzer: Situated directly on the trail, the guesthouse has a panoramic terrace. Summer sledding available up from the guesthouse. Closed Mondays.

By Car:

B319 to Obersalzberg, pay and display parkin at Dokumentation carpark.

By bus:

Bus route 838 towards “Dokumentation” and Scharitzkehl. Information at Berchtesgaden Spa or www.rvo-bus.de

By cable-car:

The Obersalzbergbahn cable car from Bergwerkstraße in Berchtesgaden to the final station Sonneck, then downhill to Hochlenzer (5 min on foot)
